Frequently Asked Questions

  • Within a school building, there are a range of people I might work with. At the clinical support model, my services are typically focused on expanding and honing the clinical, professional and ethical practices of BCBA’s and behavioral health staff. When working with school leadership, our work will aim to address barriers to success, build out lean systems for ongoing sustainability, create whole group behavior change and could even have focused coaching goals for teachers ready to engage in the process.

  • 1) We begin our work together with a complimentary 30-minute meeting. It is important for us to feel that we are like-minded individuals who are ready to take on this work together! We will discuss goals, strengths, challenges, etc.

    2) A proposal for services based on our initial consultation will be sent to you along with a contract agreement. This step is meant to fully explain the depth and purpose of the services as well as the financial agreement.

    3) I love this step! We will work together to conduct an evaluation of the current state of the school/district. We will focus on collecting baseline data for the metrics and targets you feel are the most needed for improvement.

    4) Once we solidify our initial data, I will propose a road map to support our progress toward your end goals. We will decide on items such as accountability, meeting rhythms, resources, and more.

    5) Progress towards goals will be discussed regularly and can be requested by the district at any time. This information will also be analyzed and formally presented to the district on a quarterly basis.

  • Behavior is behavior. As a behavior analyst, I understand that everything a person does is behavior. It does not matter the age, gender, ethnicity, diagnosis, family situation, socio-economic status or place of learning. Everyone, at some point, could use support. I am here.

  • The models are designed to support the needs of the school district/building.  We understand that there will be days or even weeks when the need for support might be lower, while other weeks might have more substantial need.  Districts work with Elissa to schedule their consultative and coaching hours so that it is the most beneficial to them!

  • Great question!  This is an optimal time to push initiatives and training forward!  Most typically, school districts take advantage of this time to conduct training, solidify plans for new initiatives such as MTSS-B work, provide professional development, update discipline procedures and practices, design community outreach and education events, etc.  I also work with districts to align and create uniformity in the behavioral documents that their staff use (data collection, behavior support plans, functional behavior assessments, etc.)

  • Yes! Typically, contracts run through the summer school months. This may be individualized for some districts, however- most find that this is a time when their summer school support staff would benefit from support, consultation, programming oversight and more.

  • Yes!  I offer mentoring for aspiring behavior analysts, and professional development training events for school staff, among other things.  Please reach out if you wish to discuss your specific need!

  • It is against the BCBA code of ethics to engage in self-promotion through displaying of referral sources, compliments etc. but I'd be happy to connect you with someone who has worked with me in the past.

  • The growing body of literature on remote consultation for behavior analytic services is very positive. Outcomes have shown that it is an effective method in teaching others to use the behavioral methods. Remote service provision is shown to be cost effective and highly beneficial to districts and organizations in rural locations that are more challenging for consultants to travel to regularly. Finally, studies show that telehealth services have high social validity among the people receiving the services (meaning they like it!). The higher the social validity, the more likely participants are to continue using the methods they are trained in; a win-win for all of us!
